Breakthrough novel competition could be start of new career for lucky winner

LatinaLista — It’s said that everyone has at least one good story in them. Well, if you have a novel that’s already written and just sitting in that kitchen drawer or the story is still swimming around in your head — GET BUSY!

The Second Annual Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award is underway. Amazon, along with, book publisher Penguin Group, are sponsoring the contest that is open to writers around the world.
There are only a few rules: It must be written in English. It must be fiction. It must be unpublished. And it must be submitted at the official site by February 8, 2009.

Entries will be accepted until February 8, 2009 or until 10,000 entries have been received, whichever comes first. The contest consists of four judging phases by expert reviewers, publishing professionals, and Amazon.com customers. The winner, who will receive a $25,000 publishing contract with Penguin Group (USA), will be announced on May 22, 2009.

What is really cool about this contest is that the folks at Amazon and Penguin really want to make the submission process as easy as possible. So, they’ve created online video tutorials to walk you each step of the way — from creating the story to submitting it at the site.
There’s no excuse not to do it, especially if you find yourself with a little more time on your hands than usual these days – if you know what I mean.
Who knows, this could be the start of a whole new career!
Buena Suerte!
Update: Just found out about this cool site at Writer’s Digest that lays out the blueprint for writing a novel — just in case, you still have to transfer it from your brain to screen.
