Domestic violence organization needs recipes for Latino cookbook fundraiser

LatinaLista — It’s said that one of the most popular rooms of any house is the kitchen. It’s where families come together for a variety of reasons — to eat, to cook and most of all to bond with one another.

So, it makes perfect sense that one organization would like to capitalize on that which brings all families closer together — cooking/eating — to create greater awareness about the biggest issue that tears families apart — domestic violence (DV) and child abuse.
Alianza, the National Latino Alliance for the Elimination of Domestic Violence, wants to create a Latino cookbook to sell as a fundraising item. The only things they need are recetas (recipes). They preferably want those old family recipes that are traditional recipes handed down from one family member/generation to another.
In addition to the recipes, Alianza is also looking for artwork to put on the cover of the book. For both, they need submissions by June 15, 2009.
However, this cookbook aims to set itself apart even further.

In addition to the many recipes we are collecting from all over the U.S., the book will also be full of important facts, stats, DV/child abuse poetry and short stories (we really need more DV poetry).

Check out the specific guidelines for submitting recipes, artwork, and poetry.
Once the cookbook is completed, it will be unveiled at Alianza’s headquarters in October.
