Video: Latina author credits her students for inspiring her publishing success

LatinaLista — Reading is my passion, and maybe if I hadn’t also fallen in love with teaching, I might have become a librarian just so that I could be around as many books as possible, and so starts the biography of up-and-coming Latina author Ashley Hope Pérez.

The author of two books, The Knife and the Butterfly (February 2012) and What Can’t Wait (2011), both published by Carolrhoda Lab, Pérez is both a writer and teacher at heart.

She is also the Spirit of Texas High School recommended author for January and February 2013. In an online interview, Pérez shares her background, writing tips, her love of writing and how her high school students have inspired, encouraged and helped her write her books.
