Delaware archives open their doors to Hispanics

The Chilean Patricia Fabiola VanSant, who works as a sales manager in the Department of Cosmetology of Macy’s in Dover, is the image of the video produced by the archives of Delaware inviting Hispanics in the State to visit their facilities and use their services.

“The Hispanic community in Delaware has grown slowly but firmly and we have many opportunities by the only fact of being bilingual in this state that has a lot of potential and that invites people from other States to come live here,” said Patricia.

It is kind of her own case when living in Maryland, she and her husband realized that it was better to buy a house in Delaware, because they could get more for their money and it was more convenient. Life is quieter, without a doubt.

Patricia says that the mission of the Delaware archive, which is to gather, file and disseminate official documents of the State, is also important for Hispanics, since there you can find information of utmost importance as for example necessary records to obtain a passport, all immigration documents, data on Medicaid, school grades, etc.

In the future the institution hopes to have bilingual staff, as soon as the demand for services increases, but for now you can schedule an appointment over the phone dialing 302 – 744-5050 and leaving a message.

Anyone who was born in Delaware, has properties in the State, had studied, etc. can use the file to obtain their information. They are also available photographs, manuscripts of important figures, maps and oral history of the State.

As a nice example we find a cost book for the construction of the railway from Girardot Colombia dating back to 1923, as well as photographs of the cars built for Emperor Don Pedro del Brazil, who by the way visited Wilmington.
