LatinaLista — Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15-October 15, is in full swing (pardon the pun) but too many think it can only be celebrated in the “Little Mexico” or “Little Havana” sections of a city or at a one-time neighborhood parade, but that’s not true.
More and more are learning that not all Latinos have just arrived in the US but have been here even before the Pilgrims landed. Some of the best places to commemorate Latinos’ part in US history is at the nation’s national parks. The American Latino Heritage Fund (ALHF) of the National Park Foundation (NPF) released a list of national parks, featured on the Latino Heritage sites, that will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.
- September 30 – Cabrillo Festival and Re-enactment at Cabrillo National Monument (California)
- October 6 and 7 – Hispanic Heritage Month Commemoration at Gulf Islands National Seashore, (Florida)
- October 7 – Archeological Tour of Barrio de Tubac and Tumacacori Mission at Tumacacori National Historical Park (Arizona)
- October 13 – International Rio Grande Delta Archeology Fair at Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park (Texas)
- Saturdays – Tour of Rancho de las Cabras at San Antonio Missions National Historical Park (Texas)
- Saturdays and Sundays – Ranger-led kayak tours at De Soto National Memorial (Florida)
- Saturdays – Art for Starters at El Morro National Monument (New Mexico)
