Federal gov’t creates online space to find the latest alerts and recalls

LatinaLista — With every new national crisis this nation experiences, there is one overriding lesson that Washington has finally learned — keep the people informed.

A new government web site aims to comply with that lesson. Notifications.USA.gov was launched this week as an organized outlet for official alerts ranging from recalls to weather emergencies.

This new notifications menu already includes more than 7,000 updates covering 6,200 topics from across 144 federal agencies and offices. Citizens can sign up to receive ongoing updates on topics of interest and have them delivered via e-mail, text, or RSS feeds.

What that means is that recipients can read the latest alerts on their smart phones, iPads, desktops, laptops, etc.

It takes the concepts of a responsive government and an informed public to new levels.
