National Latino Cookbook to help raise money to service battered families

LatinaLista — It’s no coincidence that the kitchen or la cocina is the heart of most homes and the one room that draws families together. So it makes perfect sense that an organization that helps battered families heal would create a fundraising project that brings families together in the kitchen to cook traditional Latino recipes.

The National Latino Alliance for the Elimination of Domestic Violence has just released “Remembering the Sabores of my Cocina.” Packed with over 270 traditional recipes supplied by Latinas, from celebrities to domestic violence survivors, the cookbook also features poetry and inspiring stories of survival by survivors of domestic violence.
The cover of the cookbook was done by Miami, Florida artist Eva Ruiz, who won a national competition to have her artwork featured on the cover. In turn, Ms. Ruiz has autographed all the book covers.
The cookbook costs $20 plus $3 shipping and handling. Forms to buy the cookbook can be downloaded from the organization’s website and printed out and mailed. Proceeds from the book go back to the National Latino Alliance for the Elimination of Domestic Violence to fund their worthwhile projects and services.
