Video: CA Poet Laureate feels Latino writers reaching turning point in self-identity

LatinaLista — The concept of an American identity is something that haunts ethnic writers each time they create a new work. Are they writing from their ethnic identity — Mexican-American? Cuban-American? Dominican-American? or are they just writing from the American perspective?

In response to a question from the audience at the Zocalo Public Square event, Herrera explains who gets to define the word American and how that definition is manifesting itself in the works of today’s Latino and Latina writers.
