Latina Challenge: Sign your name in Stop the Violence Against Women’s virtual book

LatinaLista — November 25, 2008 is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The United Nations Development Fund for Women or UNIFEM is spearheading a campaign to raise awareness of this deadly and prevalent act against women with the Say No to Violence against Women! campaign.

At the campaign’s website, there is a wealth of information about all the different ways women are abused and violated and what we can do to help force governments to acknowledge that it’s happening and be a partner with the women in their countries, as well as, their defenders in putting a stop to it.
But the governments need convincing.
One way to do it is to sign a virtual book, that’s located on the site. The intent is that the more names signed in this book will prove to those governments that we women are all sisters regardless of country, religion or race and we do care what happens to each other.
As a way to motivate Latinas to get involved in this campaign, a challenge is being issued for one million Latinas around the world to put their names to this virtual book by November 25 and show the world that we are serious when we say STOP THE VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN!
