New Latina-hosted syndicated talk show wants to “Chit Chat”

LatinaLista — It’s not exactly The View but it is an answer to a question that many Latinas have had since Oprah scored her own show and Barbara Walters created her vision of TV for women.

mario08.jpgThe question has long been why weren’t there any Latinas as regular hosts or co-hosts of daytime talk shows? Even the latest all-female pow-wow on CBS, The Talk, doesn’t have one Latina among the crowd on the couch.

At least someone in TV land took notice of the imbalance and created the show “Chit Chat.” It airs as a special half-hour segment during “Extra” Weekend Edition Saturday.

Extra host, Mario Lopez, will introduce each new show of “Chit Chat,” hosted by a panel of Latinas.

The hosts for the show all have roots in show business:

Ann Lopez, a producer, actress and mother; Constance Marie, actress, blogger and mother to 22-month-old Luna Marie; Sabrina Bryan, singer, dancer and television personality; Julissa Bermudez, actress and host; Ines Sainz, journalist for TV Azteca and mother of three, and Sara Sohn, journalist, singer and expectant mother.

The show is billed as a talk show from a Latina perspective and because it’s syndicated it airs at different times depending on the market.

If there is one thing disappointing about this new show, it’s that Warner Brothers or the producers have not done a better job of publicizing the show to the Latina market. As of now, I can’t find a dedicated site for it — it’s lumped together with the Extra site — and it’s not clear if the show has already aired or will begin airing in 2011.

There are a couple of YouTube videos posted of segments from the first show but beyond that there’s not much news — which makes us wonder if this is nada mas an experiment to see if Latina viewers really want a show that represents our viewpoints.

All they have to do is let the Latino community know about the show and they’ll get their answer in no time.
