The New and the Old Latina Lista

LatinaLista — Thanks for making the journey across the Blogger border to the new site for Latina Lista.
After so many months of dreaming of a better site to not only house my pensamientos but support my fellow Latinas/os, it’s a dream come true.
With so much more content, you’re probably wondering why go through all this work.
It’s simple: I have a passion and a mission — and I enjoy sharing the journey.

When I first started blogging, there were very few Latina voices in the blogosphere. Since I grew up knowing nothing but smart Latina women, I knew this was just an oversight.
So, I started blogging to not just vent about the current events but to bring more Latinas out of the shadows. Our citizenship status isn’t the only thing that confines us to the outskirts of mainstream recognition!
Yet, a “little” debate started in DC regarding immigration reform. Before I knew it, I found myself joining the small number of Latinos who add their voices to the ongoing dialogue.
In the process, I found I couldn’t celebrate Latinas like I used to. Latina Lista had evolved into an exciting platform where more people were discovering that Latinas can think — but what else do we do?
With this new site, I am actually addressing the two audiences that have developed for LL. One audience is only interested in the blog component. I respect that and I am honored that they do tune in on a daily basis to read what my perspectives are, regardless if they agree or not.
The other audience is the one I started out with who gave me so much initial support, my fellow Latinas. The rest of this new site is dedicated to ellas.
Hazlo, (or “Do it”) is a section where Latinas who always dreamed of achieving something special to them share their journeys with us all, and tell us how they did it in case more of us want to follow in their footsteps.
In the book world, there are so many good books written by and for Latinas/os, and there are several excellent blog book sites dedicated to Latina/o authors. But nobody can cover everything. So, in the Bookshelf blog, I am adding my voice to this arena in the hopes of sharing as well those talented writers among us who are just out there waiting to be discovered.
Speaking of being discovered, I thought it was really important to give a platform to those who want to break into show business, not to mention how much fun it would be to get to know them.
So, though eventually Latina Lista has plans for the “Music/Video/Podcast” section, it will always be a section where we highlight talented women and men and their work.
I just wanted to widen the stage a bit.
So, there you have it. I promise this is my last post about the site. I encourage you to browse through it and tell us what you think.
Later on today I will get back to posting — so much to write, I don’t know where to begin!
