Revamped USA.gov features 18 cell phone apps to make people’s lives easier

LatinaLista — Nowadays, anything that’s worth anything has an app. It’s as if having an app adds a cool factor to what is otherwise mundane. So, is it really any surprise that the federal government now has an app too?

Last week, the federal government unveiled a redesigned web site at USA.gov that features a new and improved way of doing things on the federal level, along with, additional apps from different government agencies that bring the total to eighteen.

The revamped USA.gov website, celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, offers a one-stop shop for government information by linking to more than 10,000 pages of federal, state, and local government information. Information on student loans, child care, small business licensing regulations, visa information, and more.

The mobile apps gallery features: Product Recalls, USPS Mobile App & Tools, MyTSA, USA.gov Mobile, NIH’s Mobile MedLine Plus and BMI calculator, EPA’s UV Index, USDA’s Foodipedia, NREL’s Alternative Fuel Station Locator and Fuel Economy.gov, DoS’ America.gov Mobile and U.S. Embassy Locator, EPA Mobile, FBI Most Wanted, FEMA Mobile, NASA App, and VA mobile.

From checking airport wait times in line at the airport, scanning a bar code at the local store to check for food and product recalls, seeing a list of the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted, finding the nearest U.S. Embassy if traveling abroad or finding the nutrition info on over 1,000 foods to even checking out the temp at the beach, the apps on USA.gov strive to be useful, as well as, high-tech — just like the rest of the newly designed site.

For good measure, the web site even shows people how to contact their elected officials via Twitter. It’s all in keeping with the new tagline of the site: “Government Made Easy.”
