Intrn’l Video: Argentinian photojournalist creates special project taking people “Back to the Future”

LatinaLista — Buenos Aires-born Irina Werning has two Master’s degrees. One is in history and the other in photo journalism. Two different subject areas that Irina has combined to create an unique global photo history project.

A lover of old photos, Werning didn’t see them as keyholes to the past of someone’s life but rather as a projection of someone’s future. Always curious about how people in the old photos would feel and look like if they were to reenact those same photos today, Werning decided to find out.

A couple of years ago, she invited people to send her old photos of themselves. Before she knew it she was receiving photos and emails by the hundreds. She dubbed her project ‘Back to the Future.’

For each person, Werning analyzed the original photo and then painstakingly recreated it with the same person, in the same location, recreating the same facial expressions and wearing the same type of clothing as in the original photo.

It didn’t take long before Werning’s simple art project went viral capturing the attention and curiosity of people everywhere. The response was so overwhelming that Werning is now embarked on a global journey to add more people to her growing collection of mesmerizing photos.
