Video: Creating a new movement showcasing how everyone’s sense of style is “What’s Underneath”

LatinaLista  — Elisa Goodkind worked for over 20 years as a New York fashion stylist. Over time, she saw that commercial fashion was less about exhibiting a bold individuality but more about fitting a predetermined mold. At the same time, Elisa realized what she did for a living was also destroying her daughter Lily's – and other girls and women's – self-esteem.

So, Elisa hung up one camera for another and she and her daughter decided to create a new movement to showcase how everyone's unique style goes beyond just clothes.

The mother-daughter duo created the video platform StyleLikeU (SLU) where empowered women are interviewed and share how they learned to accept themselves. In the process, the mission of the movement is to empower everyone to accept their true selves.

StyleLikeU created a viral video series titled The What's Underneath Project, where a wide range of interesting, courageous women are encouraged to shed their clothes and reveal their true stye (a,k,a, stories).

The latest addition to the video series is actress Daphne Rubin-Vega.

Having originated the role in the musical Rent of Mimi Marquez in 1996, Daphne is now in her 40s and more herself than ever. Courageously upfront about showbiz’s sexism, its ageism against women, and its racism against Latinas, Daphne declares, “I appreciate being called a success. But the truth is, I’m more than success: I’m a fucking miracle.”
