Crowdfunder: Helping people with lung-related diseases breathe easier in El Salvador and Guatemala

Campaign: The Human Powered Nebulizer

Three of the ten most prevalent causes of mortality in the world are lung-related illnesses.

Since 2004, the Human Powered Nebulizer has been a product created by Lars Olson, associate professor and interim chair of biomedical engineering at Marquette University, to provide respiratory medical assistance to those who can not easily reach treatment.

In many countries, especially in Central America, it can take hours to travel to a medical clinic to receive the proper medical treatment. With the Human Powered Nebulizer, people can receive treatments from a trained professional in their home without worrying about using any electricity.

Over the past ten years, Lars Olson has worked with numerous engineers, completed clinical trials and a field test on the Human Powered Nebulizer.

There are currently 14 nebulizers in use in El Salvador with plans to expand to Guatemala. The technology and science behind the nebulizer is proven, now all is needed are funds to assemble and ship more nebulizers to those in need in these countries.

This campaign is different from most campaigns seen on IndieGoGo. This isn’t some concept that someone has or some lofty goal. The human-powered nebulizer is a real medical device that already works.

The point of this campaign is to expand the reach of the nebulizers, not start a new project.

The campaign’s goal is $10,000 and ends in 18 days.
