Crowdfunder: Lifting children in Nicaragua out of poverty with honeybee farm

Campaign: Honeybees to Lift Children Out of Poverty

Thousands of children are living in poverty in Nicaragua, the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

Spark Ventures is a Chicago-based non-profit that partners with international grassroots organizations to help children in poverty with education, nutrition, and healthcare. Unlike most organizations, however, they don’t believe in just writing a check.

They call it business driven philanthropy.

  • They invest time and resources into a new business opportunity.
  • The business creates local jobs & sustainable products.
  • The profits help support high-impact programs to lift children out of poverty.

With Spark Ventures’ innovative approach to philanthropy, the profits from the honeybee farm will sustain their partner organization, Las Tías, and will help the children of Nicaragua for many years to come.

Since partnering with Asociación Las Tías in 2012, Spark Ventures has invested financial support to increase staff compensation, hire a full time social worker, and ensure the meal program reaches all 150 children served by Las Tías.

There is now a 100% primary graduation rate at their partner facility.

The campaign’s goal is $15,000 and ends on December 15.
