Going on six years, one Latino artist still explaining what a Hispanic looks like

LatinaLista — Slam poet, actor and playwright Carlos Andrés Gómez is a proud Colombiano-Americano. What that means is Carlos is proud of his Hispanic heritage, even though to many non-Latinos he doesn’t fit the stereotypical image of what Hollywood and rural America believe a Hispanic should look like.

Six years ago, Carlos expressed his frustration at being told he “didn’t look Hispanic.” Over the years, he’s refined his frustration into a very passionate, on-target stand-up poetry routine that doesn’t just point out the absurdity that Hispanics should fit nicely into a gelatin mold of sameness but that Hispanics should bear the blame of this misperception that was created by a demographic who claim they can’t tell one Hispanic from another.
