Business plan competition targets young urban entrepreneurs

LatinaLista — Ok, you know the economy sucks  BIG TIME but you just can’t shake your idea for a business that you know can weather this economic storm. All you need is a little cash flow to prove you have a winning business idea.
Well, you’re in luck — that is, if you’re between the ages of 21-35. If so, then you may qualify to enter the annual business competition known as the MUES Business Plan Competition.

The full name of the competition is the Miller Urban Entrepreneur Series (MUES) which selects five winning business plans and awards four of them with $25,000 business grants and the grand prize winner with $50,000.
The competition began in July and is slated to close Dec. 1, 2008 at 5 p.m. CST.
The web site is dedicated to helping up-and-coming urban entrepreneurs and has posted extensive resources and tutorials on how to create a winning business plan. This is the ninth season of the competition, and this year, the competition’s sponsors have created a webinar series on topics particularly helpful for entrepreneurs. The next webinar is on October 28, 2008 and is titled “Do the Math — Understanding the Financials.”
The webinar series is free but registration is required.
Though not everyone may qualify to enter the competition there’s more than enough helpful information on crafting a business plan to get you started in the right direction.
While it may seem bleak out on Main Street, there are opportunities popping up everywhere. We just have to keep our eyes open and be ready to take advantage of it when it appears.
