ICE declares self-deport program a failure

LatinaLista — After three weeks and wasting $41,000, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrived at a startling conclusion — creating a program to allow undocumented immigrants to self-deport doesn’t work.

As Latina Lista noted in the first week of the federal government’s program “Scheduled Departure,” the idea was a bust from the beginning.
Why it took even this long for ICE to figure it out is a testament to the fact of how out of touch Washington is with the reality, NOT of immigration enforcement, but the reasons why undocumented immigrants continue to stay here and continue to come to the United States.

According to ICE officials, only 8 people took advantage of the program: “an Estonian man in Phoenix, a Guatemalan man and Indian couple in Chicago, a Salvadoran man in Charlotte, a Mexican woman in San Diego and a Guatemalan man and Lebanese man in Santa Ana.”
Jim Hayes, the acting director of ICE’s detention and removal operations, told the Associated Press that the failure of this program proves that the only method that really works is enforcement.
Yet again, a Neanderthal response to a complex problem that will not find a likely resolution anytime soon if the same people directing these operations are left in power.
Hayes claims that ICE created “Scheduled Departure” to show immigrant advocates that they do have a soft side when it comes to immigration enforcement. But one has to wonder if it’s a soft side or it was being soft in the head that assumed people would voluntarily line up in the streets to self-deport knowing they wouldn’t be able to return to their families in this country for years at a stretch.
Hayes further alleges that everyone who was opposed to this benevolent program just wants “amnesty, they want open borders, and they want a more vulnerable America.”
The truth of the matter is that Washington allowed for a more vulnerable America and in an effort to clean up their mistakes, they’re trying to make up for lost time by dehumanizing the immigration issue. They purposely are not recognizing the fact that because of our nation’s clamp down on immigration, many people were forced to stay on this side of the border and establish roots. The results are that there now exists what are known as mixed status families — some members legal, others not.
What person on earth would knowingly separate him or herself from their family with no idea when they would be reunited or opt to pack the family up and take them to a country that would be strange and foreign to the children and to which they themselves have been disconnected from for years?
The immigration fiasco is a bipartisan blame-game, but it’s punitive enforcement is clearly linked to the Republican Party which is justifying the enforcement measures by loudly labeling all these people as criminals — and in the American psyche, there’s no scarier word than “criminal.”
It doesn’t seem to matter that some members of Congress and corporate America have committed far worse crimes than any of those undocumented whose only crime was using a false Social Security number to work a low-wage job.
In these tight fiscal times, $41,000 is a lot of money to go to waste for a program that could work if it targets the right people. “Scheduled Departure” shouldn’t be scrapped just yet.
It should be put on hold until November 4 and then one self-deport center set up — in Washington, DC.

    The Republican party is not the only one to blame. This acceleration of illegal aliens into our country started way back in 1986 with the last amnesty. We have had both Repubs and Democrats in the White House since then. Amnesty with no border security and no employer accountability is what led us to this mess we are in today.
    It is against our immigration laws to enter our country illegally. When most people think of doing something against the law in their minds it equals criminal and rightly so. No one is saying that it equates to murder for example.
    Oh please, we do hold congress and corporate America accountable for their hand in this also. But there is a third party called illegal aliens. Many of them are guilty of not only using fake numbers but stolen SS numbers and I.D. Many are guilty of other crimes also.
    I don’t think that most sane Americans thought that “scheduled departure” was going to work, so it was no surprise and it was a waste of money.
    Going after the employers, taking away benefits such as healthcare and education and rescinding the 14th Amendment is what will make them self deport.

    Makes you wonder how many will come out of the shadows when the massive amnesty bill is passed. Maybe they should have taken the gov up on this option. If they wait for amnesty, and they have a criminal history or deporation order, they won’t qualify.

    E
    If the deportation order is for an “administrative issue’ such as (being in this country out of legal status) they will qualify. If it is for a criminal conviction then they wont.
    If they have a criminal history they shouldent be here anyway. Who wants them? No one. Kick them out! Deport all criminals, gangbangers and racist, then people can live in peace.

    I recieved this in an Email.
    DO NOT WATCH this video if you get disturbed easily by the usual mass media manipulation-disinformation B.S.
    This video shows cruel and sadistical acts perpetrated by soldiers in Iraq onto Iraqi people and animals.

    The “american dream”. They’re bringing freedom in Iraq…after they implanted it here on Turtle Island.
    You know what they say, “can’t stop progress”.
    This is some of what needs to, and will vanish from the surface of the Earth. The same kind of treatment happened here, and everywhere this “Dominant Society” aka “Civilization” aka “Killing Machine” …and is still happening where this “Cancer” has propagated…
    “They” want us to get depressed. They want us to feel powerless. They want us to feel suicidal if we don’t agree with all of this…They want us to live in fear. They want us to be so busy we don’t have neither time nor energy to deal with them. They want us to be distracted. They want us to be entertained, and so on…while they’re “Taking Care of Business”…Our business! (i.e. our lives)

    Evelyn, I truly wish you would do something to help these “victims”
    E
    I do, I make generous donations to the ACLU so they can sue the hell out of those who abuse them.
    ~~~
    instead of just ranting and raving and calling good Americans racist over and over and over.
    E
    If you are racist and cant take the heat Keep it to yourself. Because not even hiding back here is going to help.
    ~~~~
    It is very tiresome and very childish. Get off your whiny, self-righteous ass, go to Mexico and help those people there. You are not doing anything here but pissing off good American people, of all colors, who are
    E
    Let me finish that sentence for you RACISTS!
    Good I am glad they are pissed off. Racism doesent pay! Pendeja! Get a clue!
    ~~~~
    Mexico has very strict laws that they damn well enforce, so why aren’t Americans allowed, in your skewed view, to enforce ours?
    E
    Not true. I have a summer home in Mexico. I go there as often as I can. I see other Americans who overstay their tourists visas and they are given a grace period to renew it.
    ~~~~
    Why are we racist for wanting to enforce our laws? Your thinking is so screwed up it is scary.
    E
    The fact that you think it’s OK to hurt children is scary.
    Because those laws are racist and immoral and must be changed.
    If those laws had been enforced from the beginning we wouldent have this problem.
    But they weren’t. We cannot expect to break up families and scare children, make people loose their homes, that is immoral.
    Pick up a bible Read! Educate Yourself instead of sitting on your selfish ass all day patting yourself on the back while telling youself how much better you are then “those others.”

    Show me where th law says that.
    This is the law:
    If you are deported, rather than granted voluntary departure, the time-bars for returning to the U.S. are different. If you were deported as an aggravated felon, you may never return. If you were ordered removed before, you are barred from returning for 20 years. If this is your first deportation order and you have not been convicted of an aggravated felony, you are barred from returning for 10 years. If you are charged as an arriving alien and then deported, you are barred from returning for 5 years.

    We were talking about who would and who wouldent be eligible to stay under a new immigration reform bill if it is patterned after the immigration bill of 07, right.
    An amendment introduced on the house floor stated that all immigrants charged only with immigration violations would be pardoned by the government and be given a green card.
    I have the proceedings recorded.
    Even today If this is your first deportation order and you have not been convicted of an aggravated felony, you are barred from returning for 10 years and if you are charged as an arriving alien and then deported, you are barred from returning for 5 yrs.
    With help from a Lawyer you can petition the government for a pardon and have your record expunged.
    Then your American citizen spouse can petition for a status change (permanent residence) for you. It costs alot of money but it can be done. 10 to 20 thousand.
    That is one reason we have so many illegal status immigrants from Mexico.
    There are no avenues open for them to come legally if they are from Mexico.

    Well, this was introduced last year and was never voted into law since so many Americans against the whole amnesty bill were outraged. I don’t know how you can assume that the same the same thing is going to be introduced again.

    I don’t know how you can assume that the same the same thing is going to be introduced again.
    E
    Because it was already tried, and not accepted.
    The goal of CIR is to bring out all immigrants who are not criminals, who are working, paying taxes and are willing to prove they do want to become citizens down the road by putting them on sort of (probation) path for 8 years to learn English, pay back taxes if any are owed etc etc, and if all goes well then citizenship.
    If one of the requirements is that they never have an Administrative issue with the us Gov. then no one would qualify, so adding that poison pill to any CIR bill would be unacceptable and be rejected because it would defeat the purpose of CIR which is to bring all immigrants out of the shadows so we will know who is in our country.
    Any immigrant refusing to come forward would not be able to sustain themselves because they wouldent have access to the new national identity cards or drivers licence to be issued soon that will replace the flawed e-verify that cant distinguish if the person carrying the SS card they are showing, is the person it was issued to.
    Diane Feinstein’s bill to legalise only migrant field workers was is a perfect example of what is unacceptable to us. It is either all immigrants that qualify or none.
    It must include all immigrants who are not criminals and meet the qualifications to become citizens to be acceptable, if not it will be rejected by our side.
    We will join your side and march against it like we have in the past. We will protest along with you like we have in the past.
    Some of the laws or bills you thought had been stopped because your side didnt accept them were stopped because they were also unacceptable to us.
    When drafting immigration reform bill our representatives or congressmen will accept no less. It must be all or none.
    The only piece of legislation that we are willing to accept alone is the Dream act.

    No actually I am very pleased that Americans who adhere to racism and discriminatory behavior are pissed off at people like me. It shows that we are damaging their agenda by exposing them. I am proud to include myself in the group of Millions of Americans who have the courage to stand up and fight for what is right no matter who is offended.
    The audacity of those who think we will forever accept their Euro Ethnocentrism is appalling.
    We wont stop fighting until they are pushed back into the caves they emerged from, you can take that to the bank!
    There demands based on racism are despicable in every sence of the word.
    The mega-millions voting for Clinton and then coming togather to vote for Obama show me that racism will not be tolorated!

    Wow, I am speechless Evelyn. You are not fighting against racist Americans, you are fighting against just regular Americans demanding our laws be upheld.
    Somewhere along the line someone poisoned your mind and brainwashed you to such an extreme you will probably never pull out of it. What happened to the native Americans was appalling. It’s history, over and done with. Move on.

    Even more voted for Obama, they also know his stance on immigration CIR!

    E
    This immigration issue is very simple.
    It has to do with what is wrong versus what is right.
    When you have people recruiting immigrants from another country to come and work in this country and you do nothing to deter it, in fact you look the other way while the immigrants contribute to the economy, bring American citizens services and goods at affordable prices, while you continue to look away.
    Then they become integrated into the community, buy homes, have American children, and marry American spouses, set down roots.
    Then all of a sudden one day you try to pass a law after looking away for 20 years that would make criminals, (felons), out of the immigrants for being out of status, and their American family members for aiding and abetting, that is wrong wrong wrong.
    For you to accept this as right, it is obvious that somewhere along the line someone poisoned your mind and brainwashed you to such an extreme you will probably never pull out of it.
    Try to get over the abuse you have suffered. That is the reason people accept discriminatory behavior so i assume that is why you think what I explained above is right. It isn’t. Get some help!!
    Before you explode!

    Who is doing the recruiting Evelyn? It is not just Americans. It is people like Isabel Garcia, Enrique Morones, Antonio Villaraigosa, etc., etc. You will not acknowledge this fact. They are exploiting their own people and you do nothing about them, just whine and complain about the evil white man.

    Border Angels
    Founded by Enrique Morones in 1986, Border Angels is a non-profit organization supporting humanity. The organization consists of extraordinary volunteers who want to stop unnecessary deaths of individuals traveling through the Imperial Valley desert areas and the mountain areas surrounding San Diego County, as well as the areas located around the United States and Mexican border. The high percentage of unnecessary deaths have been results of extreme heat and cold weather conditions, in addition some have sadly been the results of racial-discrimination crimes.
    Steps Needed To Be Taken Spring and Summer Months: With horrifically hot temperature conditions, hundreds of rescue stations are located along the ten state US Mexico border region. Temperatures reaching as high as 127 degrees, water is critical for survival. Volunteers maintain stations throughout the spring and summer months.
