LatinaLista — Not too long ago, I wrote a post asking why so many of us are apathetic in the face of so many actions taken in Washington these days that impact the quality of our lives and the lives of the most vulnerable in our society.
There were some interesting comments but the bottom line that everyone agreed upon was that the supreme example of showing we care to what happens to our society is through our vote.
Today is National Voter Registration Day. On their website, they state:
In 2008, 6 million Americans didn’t vote because they missed a registration deadline or didn’t know how to register. In 2013, we want to make sure no one is left out.
With states passing onerous Voter ID laws and some changing the basic rules on how to register, where to register, etc. , volunteers for National Voter Registration Day will be working in cities throughout the nation to make sure no one is denied their civic right to cast a vote.
All of us can do our part by promoting this day by posting it on our Facebook pages, tweeting it out and just talking it up with friends and family.
Because regardless of what happens in Washington, we’re not powerless to change the nation – as long as we vote.
