Univision launches new section that is all about la musica

LatinaLista — Regardless of how well a U.S. Latino speaks Spanish, there’s one area that unites all different generations of Latinos — la musica.

While iTunes has their “Latin” department, there aren’t a lot of places to turn to find the latest Spanish musical artists. Univision hopes to change that.

Launched last week, Univision Musica features the latest hits, in both English and Spanish, within the Latino community in several ways: full lyrics of the top hits, selected audio of popular songs in the “Listening Party” section, music videos, photos, artist pages, current news of musical artists and a studio concert series called In Studio with the first guest artist being Daddy Yankee.

In addition, drawing on their network of radio stations, Univision Música features links to listen live to all of their radio stations across the country.

Since music is not being sold at the site presently, Univision representatives claim they don’t want to compete with iTunes but rather are looking to partner with companies like the online music store to add further functionalities to the site.

“Music is extremely important to Hispanics, and so we recognized a great opportunity to offer our audience a brand new, enhanced music experience,” explained Caroline Carver, Univision marketing manager.

There is also a special section dedicated to in-depth coverage of the Latin Grammy awards show scheduled to be broadcast on November 11.

Featuring everything from photos, a list of the nominated songs and a history of past shows to selling tickets for this year’s Las Vegas event, the section rounds out a site that is still growing but holds a lot of promise.
