Nation’s national parks getting in on Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations

LatinaLista — Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15-October 15, is in full swing (pardon the pun) but too many think it can only be celebrated in the “Little Mexico” or “Little Havana” sections of a city or at a one-time neighborhood parade, but that’s not true.

Mission San José de Tumacácori was established in January 1691 by Jesuit Father Eusebio Francisco Kino. Located on 310 acres at the town of Tumacácori, Arizona, it is open to the public from the Tumacácori National Historical Park visitor center. (Photo: Cheyenne L Rouse)

More and more are learning that not all Latinos have just arrived in the US but have been here even before the Pilgrims landed. Some of the best places to commemorate Latinos’ part in US history is at the nation’s national parks. The American Latino Heritage Fund (ALHF) of the National Park Foundation (NPF) released a list of national parks, featured on the Latino Heritage sites, that will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.
