House passes the DREAM Act!

LatinaLista — Minutes ago, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that the DREAM Act garnered 216 votes in favor versus 198 votes against it in the House of Representatives.

As the debate waged in the House, speakers on both sides of the aisle delivered passionate arguments. However, it’s one thing to have a philosophical difference of opinion and quite another to oppose something simply to oppose it with no real good reason.

President Obama sits in the Oval Office earlier Wednesday evening making calls on behalf of the DREAM Act.

That tactic was crystal clear as GOP representatives strode to the podium and rather than argue against the DREAM Act based on their deep philosophical differences they distorted the elements of the bill and used a litany of negative terms: amnesty, chain-migration, etc.

How can you respect a difference of opinion when it’s not based on anything other than lies and intimidation and no real knowledge of the bill itself?

Tomorrow, the Senate will vote on whether or not to vote on the DREAM Act. It can only be hoped that they will follow the lead of the House and bring it to a vote, and then vote in the affirmative.
