New website puts girls “In the Know” about sexual health issues

LatinaLista — Though yesterday’s surprise announcement that the Susan G. Komen for the Cure charity is severing its partnership with Planned Parenthood, resulting in a loss of hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant money that was mostly used for breast exams for Planned Parenthood clients, there are other organizations still actively working to make women’s health a priority.

One such organization is The Guttmacher Institute.

Knowing that girls and women always have questions about sex, pregnancy, contraception, sexually transmitted diseases and abortion but don’t have anyone, other than their doctor, to turn to for information, the international organization launched a simple website asking the most basic question: Are you IN THE KNOW?

Nothing fancy, the site strives to make a game of the issues by testing visitors’ knowledge about sexual health issues. Presented in a quiz style format, visitors test their knowledge on 110 specific questions. The answers are short, to the point and are drawn from the most up-to-date research available.

Rounding out the site, the Institute has also developed a set of flashcards and a booklet to go with the site.

Perhaps the most important aspect of the site is that it’s mobile-friendly — to answer the questions, at those times, that just can’t wait.
