Immigrant detention facilities, a.k.a. private prisons, used to be a sure way for cash-strapped communities to supplement their coffers. It was thought that undocumented immigrants would be an endless money source since the U.S. economy will always shine as a beacon to those people in countries where jobs are scarce. Not anymore. No town learned this better than Littlefield, Texas where private prison operators promised alleged prosperity for a town struggling with an economic crisis. Instead, the town got a debt nightmare.
