LatinaLista — At one level, any immigration debate concerns a raw political calculation: Who ends up with more voters?
An article in today’s Washington Post makes an interesting observation about the Latino community as a whole — though not all of us agree on illegal immigration, none of us appreciates being the butts of a witch hunt perpetuated by members of the Republican Party.
It stands to reason that Republican Latinos will feel less than welcome in a party whose extremist Anglo leaders seem to think it’s open season on all Latinos in order to root out those here illegally.
It’s hard to defend a party stance when it’s aimed at yourself and your family, or one would think.
Which leads to a very interesting question:
Are Republican Latinos so loyal to the Party that they would blindingly support an immigration reform bill that included the profiling of all Latinos while in search of the undocumented?
Or maybe the real question should be is: How much does the Republican Party really value their Latino members?
