First national pro bono legal service event lasts from Oct. 25-31

LatinaLista — In these tough economic times, it’s not unusual for some people to need expert legal advice.

The need for legal services among the poor is overwhelming. According to an American Bar Association study, at least 40% of low and moderate-income households experience a legal problem each year.

Yet studies show that the collective civil legal aid effort is meeting only about 20% of the legal needs of low-income people.

In this day and age, it’s not only those who have historically been low-income but now people who suddenly find themselves unemployed who are also needing legal help.

Well, for all of next week, from October 25-31, people who qualify should be able to find some free legal relief during the first annual National Pro Bono Celebration.

You’ll have to check your local news sites to see where in your town you can find the lawyers participating in National Pro Bono Celebration. Since it is the first annual event, there may be some cities slow to catch on, but hopefully, over time more lawyers will see the service in giving back to the community.
