LatinaLista — Given the recent disparaging remarks by Donald Trump about Mexican immigrants, it’s always good to be reminded of the long history Mexicans have with the United States. Included in that story, is the diverse growth of the Latino population throughout U.S. history, courtesy of the arrival of Latino immigrants from other countries.
In a salute to the history and contributions of all Latino Americans, PBS created in 2013 the six-hour documentary series LATINO AMERICANS. The series chronicles Latino history from the 16th to the 21st century.
The changing and yet repeating context of American history provides a backdrop for the drama of individual lives. It is a story of immigration and redemption, of anguish and celebration, of the gradual construction of a new American identity that connects and empowers millions of people today.
The series, which can now be watched online, is divided into six episodes:
I. Foreigners in their Own Land (1565-1880)
II. Empire of Dreams (1880-1942)
III. War and Peace (1942-1954)
IV. The New Latinos (1946-1965)
V. Prejudice and Pride (1965-1980)
VI. Peril and Promise (1980-2000)
