Mexican-based media reports that 45% of the country now lives in poverty. One of the hardest hit groups in Mexico are mariachis. Today, Google is honoring Mariachis on their homepage. It’s ironic since mariachis in Mexico recently staged a public plea for help. Because gatherings are frowned upon, mariachis are seeing their way of life decimated and they fear they’ll be reduced to a footnote in cultural history.
