American Airlines connects with Latinos through virtual soccer match

LatinaLista — Quiz: What is the most favorite sport among Latinos?
If you said futbol, you were right. Actually, soccer to be more precise. Who doesn’t like hearing the familiar “Goooooaaal!” blaring from our television sets during a sweaty match?

Devotion to the sport has not gone unnoticed when it comes to companies catering for Latino clients. The latest company to tap into the soccer-Latino connection is American Airlines.
Knowing that soccer fans will travel the world to see their favorite teams, the airline is hoping to make a connection with Latinos by creating a new game called The Penalty Challenge.
The objective of the interactive bilingual site is to get a discount on your next American Airlines flight. To do that, players must help the star soccer player of the game, named “Earn Miles,” score as many points as possible
It doesn’t matter how many points “Earn Miles” scores or even how often you play, everyone gets a one-time 10% ticket discount.

The offer applies to new reservations for one-way or round-trip travel on American Airlines, American Eagle, or AmericanConnection , excluding other code share flights. Travel is valid from any American destination in the 48 contiguous United States to any American Airlines destination worldwide. Tickets must be purchased at or no later than 11:59 p.m. CT, Oct. 31, 2009. All travel must be completed by Nov. 27, 2009.

To play, aside from signing up, everyone needs an AAdvantage number – an American Airlines account to keep track of your miles. If you don’t have one (and it’s free), just signing up for one at the site gives you 1,000 free miles to start your account.
Maybe the best part of the game is that it’s narrated by Fernando Fiore — the sportscaster who made the word “Goooooaaaal” the iconic symbol of Spanish play-by-play soccer matches.
