Free tickets to White House Easter Egg Roll available online Thursday

LatinaLista — Easter is in a few weeks — April 12, 2009 to be exact. While families everywhere will be helping the kids find the eggs hidden around the house and yard by the Easter Bunny, the First Family will be hosting the traditional Easter Egg Roll on the day after Easter.

The design of the 2009 wooden Easter Egg Roll souvenir egg won’t be unveiled until April 13, 2009.
It will be the 131st Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn at the White House where kids from all over are invited onto the White House grounds to hunt for colored eggs hidden by the Easter Bunny and his many helpers.
Yet, in another sign that this First Family is doing things “their way,” the free tickets for this year’s Easter Egg Roll will be available online at the Easter Egg Roll website starting Thursday, March 26.
The idea behind the online distribution is to give families who may live far from Washington, but are willing to travel there that weekend, an equal opportunity to get tickets to the event.

This year’s theme, ‘Let’s go play’, encourages America’s youth to lead healthy and active lives. The White House will open the South Lawn to children age ten and under, along with their families, to enjoy sports, cooking classes, live musical performances, storytelling and, of course, the traditional Easter egg roll. Please come dressed to be active and participate in all of the events.

The Easter Egg Roll is only open to families who have children who are 10-years-old and under. Six is the maximum number of tickets allowed per family and only two adults can be in the party. Each child who participates in the event also receives a special wooden egg as a souvenir.
But for those who are a little old to play that day but would still like their own souvenir egg, the National Park Foundation is selling the 2009 White House Easter Egg Roll souvenir eggs at their website.
Each egg will have the signature of the President and First Lady, but as far as the actual design to be put on the egg, that is still a mystery and won’t be unveiled until the day of the Easter Egg Roll.
