Russell Pearce, the bill’s sponsor, acknowledged (East Valley Tribune, 15 April) that it contemplated as much: “it [race] certainly may be a factor.” The bill language is explicit. By prohibiting only that race, color, or national origin be the sole basis of prosecution, it contemplates that any or all of them are permissible factors.

The story fails to mention that as a commercial driver, he must meet higher standards than others. It is common to require commercial drivers to carry verifiable documents. This driver knew, or should have known, what documents are required.
Didn’t you notice that this story took place BEFORE the new law went into effect today? The new law had nothing at all to do with this guys story.

Texaan 123: That’s bull. Commercial drivers only need their CDLs. They don’t need birth certificates. If you had bothered to listen, you would have heard his wife say that what made him suspicious to the police was that his mother lives in Mexico. Why the police felt the need to ask him where his mother lives, I don’t know, but apparently, if you are a US citizen and your mother lives in Mexico, you are “suspicious.”
I hope this guy sues.
Where is Obama? I can say that we now have fewer rights under Obama than we did under Bush.

True, but few Swedes or Norwegians are crossing our southern border. What Latinos want is for law enforcement to suspend rational thought in order to make the Constitution a suicide pact.
