Mandela Day aims to inspire the world

LatinaLista — Tomorrow, July 18, is the 91st birthday of South Africa’s Nelson Mandela. It is also the first global observance of Mandela Day.

Nelson Mandela
The day isn’t just to honor the legacy of one of the world’s most respected human rights leader but it is also a day dedicated to creating a global call to action in making people conscious of the impact they can have on the world if they just give a little of themselves.
Organizers of the day say the intent is not to make this a global holiday but “to inspire people from every corner of the earth to embrace Nelson Mandela’s values as they seek to improve their lives through service to their communities.”
A series of events are being planned around the world. In honesty, given that this is the first observance of Mandela Day, the events are not as widespread as what will come with time when more people hear about it and want to participate.

Yet, though the major event — a concert featuring artists like Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keyes, Queen Latifah and more — is taking place only in New York City, technology on the site allows people from all over the world to watch the concert in real time for a low price of $4.99 that benefits Nelson Mandela organizations.

MANDELA DAY CELEBRATES THE IDEA THAT EACH INDIVIDUAL HAS THE POWER TO TRANSFORM THE WORLD, THE ABILITY TO MAKE AN IMPRINT.
