New campaign asking the world to vote for the top 7 Natural Wonders

LatinaLista — The Grand Canyon. The Amazon. The Dead Sea. The Galapagos Islands.

These are just a few of the 28 natural wonders of the world that a new campaign is asking people to decide from to create the top 7 to be deemed the New 7 Wonders of Nature.
Organizers of the campaign, who also were responsible for the “7 Wonders of the World” campaign a couple of years ago, claim that “If we want to save anything, we first need to truly appreciate it!” To that end, they have created this campaign to raise awareness of these awesome gifts of Nature so that they can be better preserved for the future.
But in these tight economic times when traveling to such far-off places like the Amazon or Tanzania to see Mount Kilimanjaro (another natural wonder entry), you may feel like you’re not qualified to pick the top 7.
Thank goodness for the Internet. At the campaign’s web site, you can see pictures of the 28 nominated places and read a little history about each place and why it garnered a spot on the list.
After reading about each place, you then get to vote for your top 7.
Voting will run throughout 2009 and 2010. The winners will be announced in 2011.
And though each of these natural wonders are millions of years old, the method for getting the word out and voting is totally 21st Century. Organizers say that people can keep up with the campaign at their Facebook page and will even be able to vote via their cell phones!
