Non-profit Spotlight: Families get free help in filling out FAFSA for college-bound students

LatinaLista.net — It may be the beginning of the New Year but for many families with college-bound students it’s never too early to think about how they’re going to pay for it all.

Most families will need to apply for financial aid but filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, otherwise known as FAFSA, can be a confusing and scary process unless families have some help with it.

As luck would have it, a free program called College Goal Sunday provides families across the country exactly with that kind of help.

From January to March, College Goal Sunday events take place across the country with the goal of giving free help to families in filling out the FAFSA forms. On their website, families can find the different locations where events will take place. In those few states that aren’t covered by College Goal Sunday, organizers have found alternative sources of financial aid assistance for families.

The College Goal Sunday website also tells families what they need to bring to the events in order to receive free help and provides an online list of additional financial aid resources.

The good thing about College Goal Sunday is that it’s not just for young students. Anyone who wants to go to college, regardless of age, is encouraged to come to an event to get free help so they can get those financial aid applications filled out correctly and turned in before the deadline.
