Spotlight Non-profit: Making kids dreams come true with free school supplies

LatinaLista– With the tagline “Children have dreams too,” the mission of Young Dreams Community Outreach (YDCO) of Miami, Florida is to focus on the needy children in their communities and their dreams.

Knowing that education is the key to fulfilling those dreams, the 25-year-old founder of the year-old YDCO knew the best way to help the children of parents who are out of work was to hold a back-to-school event.

Providing children with educational supplies, on-hand activities and positive interactions, the YDCO also gives each child a free book that is donated by area residents and businesses.

In addition, the YDCO shows the children they have options in life by featuring at the back-to-school events various highlighted careers that children and their parents can explore together.

At this point due to our nation’s recession, many parents have been laid off work or even lost their homes. Many families cannot afford to purchase school supplies for their children this year. My goal is to consecutively provide children in Miami-Dade County with career preview activities, school educational supplies, and materials to keep these children dreaming of their future.
