LatinaLista — Revolutions, large and small, peaceful and violent, offline and online, are underway in every part of the world today. The people organizing, executing and demanding to be heard by their governments are young people — millennials.
At this year’s annual Aspen Ideas Festival, where “some of the most interesting thinkers and leaders from around the US and abroad gathered to discuss their work, the issues that inspire them, and their ideas” in front of both online and offline audiences, there was an interesting discussion about how today’s Millennials are redefining citizenship.
One panelist who offered her opinion on the question was Cristina Jiménez, managing director for United We Dream.
In her response, Cristina, who has a Master’s in public administration and served as an immigration policy analyst for the Drum Major Institute for Public Policy, shared her unique perspective in highlighting the realities of what spurred immigrant youth to organize, fight for civil liberties and demand to be part of the conversation rather than just the topic.
