Chile celebrates first Copa America win in 99 years with a viral parody of the winning game

LatinaLista — The U.S. wasn’t the only country setting off fireworks this past weekend. Chile was celebrating a historic win over Argentina in the finals of the World Cup soccer tournament where Chile beat Argentina, a first in the Copa America games. The win ends a 99-year wait for a Copa America trophy.

Needless to say that social media exploded with pictures, video, satirical cartoons, etc., all celebrating national pride at the win. Yet, one of the most popular videos making its way through Chile’s social media networks is a parody reliving the most “explosive” moments of the game.

Even if you’re not familiar with all the characters in the parody — Chilean and Argentinian soccer players, officials and famous personalities — there’s no misunderstanding a storyline that draws from pop culture and depicts the winning game in all its gory and violence-prone antics tinged with crude bathroom humor. But beneath the parody, the animation conveys a deeper story that is just as obvious — Chile’s pride for their team.
