Campaign: Mission: Clean Beaches
Mission: Clean Beaches is a non-profit organization created in 2012 to bring light to the negative impacts of marine debris, especially to wildlife through public outreach, education, actions, and advocacy.
Ever since her days walking the local beaches of Brevard County during her undergraduate studies in marine biology at Florida Tech, Nikia Rice realized the horrible connection of sea turtles and other marine species to marine debris, especially plastics ingestion and entanglement.
Today, Rice is a marine biologist, focusing her research on sea turtles and plastics pollution. Brevard County beaches are home to some of the world’s most important nesting sites for sea turtles.
Rice is currently serving on the Board of Directors at the Sea Turtle Preservation Society of Indialantic, Florida as their Education Coordinator.
The campaign will pay for the official 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit organization fees that the IRS requires. This will enable the organization to accept tax exempt donations to increase awareness of clean beaches and a clean environment primarily through clean ups and educational outreach.
Rice will also continue to achieve this through public awareness at a local, regional, and international level utilizing workshops, seminars, symposia, and other educational platforms including schools and even social media.
The campaign’s goal is $500 and will end on March 10.
