It’s inevitable that when there is a female candidate running for a high-profile political position, the partisanship devolves from party politics to gender politics. Though female leaders have been elected to the presidency and Prime Minister positions in most countries around the world, it will be a first for the US. Of course, in our macho culture, the idea of a female president threatens many men and it’s a fear the Trump campaign preys on — and is counting on. Yet, if history serves as an example, it may be a fruitless strategy for Trump and his cohorts. All for a simple reason: women have consistently had a higher voter turnout than men. For example, in the 2020 presidential election, about 68.4% of eligible women voted, compared to 65.0% of eligible men, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau. This trend has been steady for several election cycles, with women’s turnout exceeding men’s since the 1980s. This time around, it seems the youth vote may carry on with the trend; Do you know which country fares worse when it comes to sexual violence used against women during times of war? It’s escalating in this African country; A new (temporary) monument has been installed ‘honoring’ the Jan. 6 mob. It’s causing quite a ‘stink’!; and Neuroscientists say there is a simple way to stave off any advance of alzheimer’s — comprende? Go beyond the headlines…
