Painter and muralist John Valadez shares his experiences as an artist participating in the Chicano art movement outside of East Los Angeles. Valadez, who takes as his subject the urban landscape and people of Los Angeles, was born, raised, and continues to live in L.A. His style might be compared to that of photorealists, however, his work is not a purely documentary reflection of mainstream society. Valadez’s appearance in this “Culture Fix” talk was presented in conjunction with the L.A. Xicano exhibition “Mapping Another L.A.: The Chicano Art Movement” at the Fowler Museum at UCLA.
