Campaign: Back to school supplies – Jacmel, Haiti
“Education is the single best investment in prosperous, healthy and equitable societies.” – UN Food & Agriculture Organization
Since 2005 Restore Haiti has been working with impoverished communities to provide assistance in the areas of: Healthcare,
Education, Food and Basic living conditions.
They believe that education is a key to seeing change happen in Haiti, and making sure students have the supplies they need to start the school year off right helps contribute to their success.
By helping Restore Haiti provide school supplies to children in Haiti, supporters are helping to set the tone for the school year, and sending a message to these students that education is critical and so important that someone cares enough to make sure they have the supplies they need.
No country has ever achieved rapid and continuous economic growth without at least a 40% literacy rate. A single year of primary school increases a boy’s future earning potential by five to 15% and a girl’s even more.
A child born to a literate mother is 50% more likely to survive past the age of five.
And education and food security are directly connected: doubling primary school attendance among impoverished rural children can cut food insecurity by up to 25%.
Supplies are purchased in bulk in order to get the best pricing and volunteers assemble the packets each child will receive.
Packs include (varies by grade level)
Restore Haiti has a team of volunteers already booked to distribute these packets in mid-August, and will be sending supporters a distribution recap including photos of the students receiving their supply packets.
The campaign’s goal is $15,000 and ends in 28 days.
