If government institutions are being reshaped to serve the interests of one individual rather than the people, then the responsibility falls on us to hold power accountable. This means staying informed, engaging in local and national politics, supporting independent journalism, and resisting efforts to erode democratic norms. It also means building strong community networks that can provide support where the government fails, ensuring that rights, protections, and essential services do not disappear without a fight. If we’ve learned anything from history, it’s that democracy is not self-sustaining—it requires vigilance, action, and the collective will of the people to prevent its destruction. Several of today’s headlines exemplify how White House actions are adversely impacting our daily lives. Yet, not all is lost.
